First
But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.
"First" is the whole instruction. The day still contains work and food and the people who need you, but before all of it, before the phone, there is a turning toward what is deepest. The desert monks called this the first-fruits of the day: the hour that belongs to God before it belongs to anything else. It is also the answer to anxiety, which this saying closes a long teaching on. Put the one thing first and the many things fall into an order that no longer frightens you.
Today's practice
Do nothing on waking, no screen or food or news, until you have sat. Then the day. Notice whether the day feels different for having been put second.
The fast
Extend the morning: no food until noon if you can. Black coffee or tea is fine. Water, always.
By the calendar, today is Day ?.
