They left their nets

He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men." They immediately left their nets and followed him.Matthew 4:19–20

There is no interview and no creed to sign. A man walks past fishermen at their work and says "follow," and they put down what is in their hands and go. The way begins with a movement of the feet, not a settled conviction. You do not have to be sure of anything to start; you have to be willing to put down the net for an hour. Six mornings in, you have already done it six times. That is what following looks like from the inside: a small decision, repeated.

Today's practice

Name one net, a habit that fills the hands and the hours. Set it down for today only. Notice what your hands do instead.

The fast

Nothing after supper; nothing before noon. No snacks between meals today: two or three meals and nothing else.

Kept on this device only.
