Where your treasure is
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Notice the direction. Not "where your heart is, your treasure will be," which is what we expect, since we assume we spend on what we love. He says the reverse: what you spend on, you will come to love. The heart follows the treasure. This is why fasting and simplicity are heart-practices and not merely bodily ones. Every time you decline to reach, for food or a purchase or a screen, you move a little treasure from one account to another, and the heart, faithfully, follows it there.
Today's practice
Look at where your money and hours actually went last week. Without judgment, ask where your heart therefore is. Move one small thing.
The fast
Daily fast. Buy nothing today that is not food. Notice the reach.
