God's Kingdom doesn't come with observation; neither will they say, "Look, here!" or, "Look, there!" — for behold, God's Kingdom is within you.
Within you
He was asked a question about timing (when will it come?) and he answered a question about location. The kingdom is not a future event you wait for or a distant place you travel to. It is here, in the one asking. The Greek is entos hymōn: within you, or among you. Both readings are true and neither makes it far away.
This is the founding sentence of Christ consciousness. Everything Jesus taught about prayer, fasting, and stillness is a method for turning toward what is already present. You are not building the kingdom. You are noticing it, and then removing what obscures it.
Notice, too, who he said it to: not the disciples in private, but Pharisees who had come to test him. The kingdom within is the plain truth about every person in the room, not a secret for the initiated.
Practice
Three times today, stop mid-task and ask silently, "Where is the kingdom right now?" Don't answer with words. Just look for it where you are.
