You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
You are the light
Elsewhere he says "I am the light of the world." Here he says "you are." He does not seem to think these are in conflict. The light he carried is the same light he sees in the people listening: ordinary Galileans, fishermen, nobody's idea of the enlightened. And the verb is present tense. You are the light, not you will be.
What obscures the light is not darkness but a basket: the habits and fears and small self-protections we put over it. The practices remove the basket. And the purpose of the shining, note, is not your glory. The light is meant to be useful to everyone in the house.
Practice
Name one basket, one way you dim yourself to stay safe or unnoticed. Today, in one small situation, set it aside and let the light do what light does.
